Northland Bushcraft & Survival
This blog is about bushcraft and wilderness survival skills captured against the backdrop of northern Minnesota. I'll document everything from short day-hikes to extended camping excursions, practice primitive survival skills and simple DIY projects, with an emphasis on foraging. Not from Minnesota? Not a problem. Even though the photos, day trips and how-to’s in this blog will reflect the nature of the region, the content is intended to be all-purpose. Survival skills, frankly, are relevant to everyone. Join me while I explore.

ABOUT THE NORTHLAND
After Alaska, Minnesota is the second northernmost state and the Northwest Angle in Lake of the Woods county is the only part of the 48 contiguous states lying north of the 49th parallel. Impressive, I know. We are, of course, known as the Land of 10,000 Lakes, but actually, one of Minnesota's most noticeable and distinguishing features is that we have three biomes. In the Northeast we have the Boreal forests (you may know them as the North Woods), we have deciduous forests in the Southeast and in the west prairies rich with agriculture. Basically, from southern Canada to Kansas, you’re likely to find plant-life native to Minnesota that for you, looks like home.
