Normally, when I think of budget friendly knives, I'm thinking of my Mora Companion ($15), or my KA-BAR Dozier ($20). Both of these are great choices for beginning bushcrafters, but what if you want to go even cheaper?
What to Pack?
What you take with you in the woods will depend on many things. How long will you be out? What do you plan to do? What is the weather going to be like? To help give you some ideas, I'll unpack my most often used pack and go over the contents. This is normally what I would carry on an all-day trip, but would work fine for an overnighter as well.
Firestarting in Cold/Wet Weather
Fire is perhaps our most important tool in the wilderness. We rely on it for warmth, light, cooking food, and purifying water among other things. The ability to start a fire in less than ideal conditions is especially important, as that's when we need it most. On this trip we'll practice a few techniques to see what works and what doesn't.
